And by mad I mean me. I'm mad.
Everytime I see that batshit crazy lady on tv or in a magazine I get madder. So I'm going to get it off my chest. Then hopefully move on...
This has been gone over time and time again on every channel on every station on every television in North America so I apologize if it's repetetive.
But seriously. This woman had 6 children and no job. Three of those 6 children are on the autism spectrum. So the obvious decision to be made would be to have more children, right? Mmm hmm.
Alright, so one more kid turns into 8...we get it. She only wanted one and got implanted with 6 and one of them split and the dr should never have implanted 6 (which he had done every other time he implanted her). Okay. So now we have 8 babies. Preemies. Coming home to live with their 6 older siblings and their unemployed mother in their grandmothers rundown 3 bedroom house.
Who paid for the in-vitro? Just wondering. If anybody knows - enlighten me. I am genuinely curious.
I'll get to the part that makes my blood boil.
She chose this. Made the decision to add more children to the ones she could barely support. Put nothing in place to accomodate the changes that would occur when the new batch arrived (aside from booking her nail appointment). Showed EXTREME poor judgement.
And what does she get? Yes - a bunch of backlash & critisism.
But more importantly and new home undergoing total renovations to ensure it's a healthy environment for her 14 children.
And even more importantly around the clock nursing consisting of 14 nurses a day at an approximate cost of $135,000 dollars a month!
Are you fucking kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
That's what pisses me off.
My child was born with a birth injury leaving him with developmental delays. I had to fight tooth and nail for services for him beginning when he was a baby.
When he was diagnosed at 2yrs 6mos, they took away all of his services, telling us that he needed to go on the ABA wait list.
ABA is the only funded service for kids with ASD. And I didn't want it for Cuyler. Just didn't fit for us. So we found Floortime. It was amazing. We paid out of pocket for an OT to come work with us and Cuyler.
And then we discovered RDI. And paid out of pocket for that. I cashed in RRSP's and a GIC to pay for it.
And to compliment RDI we found Handle. We can't afford to do both. So we dropped RDI and we had to ask to be put on a payment plan for Handle.
We have recieved nothing to assist us financially with ANY of the remediation or therapy. Because the government won't recognize anything except ABA as an appropriate therapy for kids with autism.
Autism is a spectrum and every single child I know on it is so different from the next...so how can they tell me the same thing will work for each one?????????
IT INFURIATES ME.
I just thank God that our Handle practitioner is kind enough to understand and allow us to make minimum payments until we can make a lump sum payment.
Then we start all over again in the fall...
The other infuriating thing is that RDI and Handle cost a fraction of what ABA costs.
I believe the average ABA program cost about 20G a year.
Handle costs approximately six thousand (2 six month contracts).
RDI is also about six thousand (2 six month contracts).
I can't begin to tell you what Handle has done for Cuyler and our family. In 6 weeks he is a different boy. Our outlook is more optimistic than it has been in a very long time. He would not be where is his had we done ABA - guarantee it.
And by the way - remember that ABA waitlist that he was put on at age 2.5. Well his name finally came up when he was 5.
Awesome services. Way to help these kids, Ontario! Good job.

I wish the government would allow parents to choose the best program for their child. Think of all the money that could be saved and children that could benefit simply by having more CHOICES.
Choices made in the best interest of their children.
Which is something I've heard over and over from psychomom. That she only wants what is in the best interest of her children.
And she's getting it.
