SIX
Cuyler turned 6 two days ago.
I was anticipating it being a difficult, if not bittersweet day. And it was to some degree.
When he was diagnosed in May of 2005, I thought we had time on our side. He was diagnosed young and I was ready to go and fight to get him better. "SIX" was the number...the age that I looked ahead to when thinking about his future.
Long story short - he is nowhere near where I thought he would be at 6 years of age. And while I am not ok with it, I'm ok with it. He is doing well. Enjoying kindergarten. Starting to read. Working on printing. Language continues to slowly improve. So we continue to slowly progress. And that's all I can ask.
I thought this post was going to be me rambling on about things. Negative things. Bitching about this and that but I am now going to try a new tactic. I am going to try and go against what comes naturally to me - which is pessimism and negativity and try to focus on the positive. And what is more positive than my beautiful children? So here are some of my favourite recent pics of them.
We chose not to have a "friend party" for Cuyler. Instead, we took the 3 kids to Build-A-Bear this morning and they each got to make a new friend. This is Cuyler's. He named him "Bear":
Cuyler and I last night, reading before bed. We are both in our jammies.
Cuyler blowing out his candles:
Cuyler is taking skating lessons and is doing great. I have a feeling he'll be skating by the end of the season!
In my previous post I mentioned Cam wanting to play a more active role in Cuyler's life. Turns out Cuy can help Cam too. The rain was beating down and Cam was afraid so he crawled into bed with his brave little brother. This is how I found them:
And the next night...
The kids at Halloween (Eva as Tinkerbell, Cam as a zombie football player and Cuyler as Greg Wiggle):
And my gorgeous girl as Tinkerbell...just cuz! (Halloween was a blast - all three had so much fun!! Cuyler finally GOT IT. And enjoyed it!!)
